The golden years of water advocacy:
A program in Milwaukee helps seniors become advocates for the city’s rivers and Lake Michigan.
Gray: “Some of them have time on their hands and are interested in learning more about issues and getting more involved as advocates for natural resources.”
Dan Gray is with the Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s Senior Water Advocacy Network.
He says the group hosts workshops on topics such as hydraulic fracking and invasive species. It also organizes trips to places like water treatment plants, dam removal sites, and stream restoration projects. The idea is to equip seniors with the knowledge that will help them speak out on water-related issues.
