Choosing a more sustainable water filter… on this CurrentCast.

Many of us filter our water instead of buying it to conserve resources. But how much do we think about the environmental impacts of the filters we buy?

Now, a new industry standard for carbon-based water filters can help consumers choose filters made in a sustainable way. Stuart Mann, with the trade group Water Quality Association, says manufacturers undergo a rigorous evaluation to have products certified.

Mann: “Are they conserving water? Are they reducing their use of raw materials? Are they minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, and solid waste emissions?”

Mann says products bearing the sustainability seal allow consumers to make environmentally friendly choices.
